EVH 5150 III amp settings ?

Postby 5150canuck » Thu Feb 26, 2009 6:20 am

Well I just a great deal and picked up a Ivory 5150 III head and cab, I don't think I will ever leave the house !!....This thing is killer, had it at my buddys place last night with his Soldano SLO100 and you would have to flip a quarter to pick one....It's a very basic set up and easy to use, anyone have a thread or pictures of Ed's settings ?

These are the last settings that I wrote down and I've probably changed them a bit, but give them a try.

Channel 1
Gain: 4
Low: 6
Mid: 5
High: 7
Volume: 3
Presence: 7

Channel 2
Gain: 9
Low: 9
Mid: 6
High: 6
Volume: 3
Presence: 9

Channel 3
Gain: 9
Low: 9
Mid: 6
High: 8
Volume: 3
Presence: 9

I'm always changing the volume and presence depending on where I'm playing and how loud I want it, obviously.

I have a 5150III and I'm still chasing "the tone". I've been close, but can't seem to get there. Anybody else have settings they want to share?

I was looking at a picture of Ed sitting on a couple amps that I found on vhnd.com and it appears that all of them have the same settings. Granted the picture is small, but I enlarged and used a magnifying glass (might be time to get a life) to get the settings. I tried them on my 5150III and have to say that I REALLY like them. So here is what I'm using now:

Channel 2:
Gain - 9.0
Low - 7
Mid - 4.0
High - 7
Presence - 8

Channel 3:
Gain - 8
Low - 7
Mid - 4
High - 7
Presence - 8

I use reverb and delay when I'm on channel 2 and just delay on channel 3. Let me know what you think.

Am I the only one who's curious as to what the difference is between each of those numbered prototypes?

I read in a Guitar World interview that the type of finish was one of the differences. It would seem reasonable that you would only one to change one thing between each guitar. Perhaps they tried pickups on the black guitars and finishes on the bursts, etc..
